Baycu Pony Electric Banjo #2514-$2850 w/HSC

This is a striking pony size 5 string banjo with a Fiberskyn plastic head and high quality planetary tuners with ivoroid buttons. These pony banjos are the size of a mandolin and fit nicely in a mandolin case.

I build these little jos using original vintage banjos, which were mostly built prior to 1930. Most of my little banjos have slightly heavier necks and wider fingerboards for modern hands.

The neck and dowel stick I have carved from local curly maple as is the figured rim cap. The fingerboard is high quality ebony with Bacon style pearl inlays. The scale length is 17.25" and the neck length is 12"(nut to rim). Overall length is around 25" and the heavy maple rim is 8" in diametery. Nut and pip are hand carved bone.

This banjo has an "electric" style tone ring, popularized by the Fairbanks company and later by the Vega company with their Whyte Ladie banjo. These are three piece tone rings with skirt, wire, and a truss.

I have begun making tone rings very similar to the "electric" style tone rings for my little banjos. These are made of solid brass and brazed and plated.

The tailpiece is an original Slingerland model. The heavy rim hardware is all vintage and in very good condition.

I use extra slim frets, which are very close to what was used on many vintage banjos. These are made of stainless steel rather than nickel silver and will not develop grooves or wear out like vintage frets. Also I find that they intonate better.

Awesome little banjo in looks and sound!
